The Giro d'Italia - 17th stage
Ever since the very first edition of the biggest Italian road bicycle race, the "Giro d'Italia", was held in May 1909, this international racing event has been held every year in May (except during the two World Wars). The Giro d'Italia is a multi-stage tour which runs through the entire Italian peninsula. The route is incredibly diverse, leading from the lowlands to the highest pass roads, from the seaside to the Alps. From 1988 it has also been organized for women.
The stages of the Giro d'Italia that lead through South Tyrol are among the most spectacular.
On Wednesday May 26th, the racing cyclists will continue their tour, with another great challenge ahead of them: the 17th Stage of the Giro d'Italia. With a length of 173 km in total it represents one of the most challenging stages of the entire event, while at the same time one of the most spectacular, for both spectators and experienced cycling professionals. The leg leads through the Meraner Land, leading past castles, villages, holiday resorts and the wine growing towns of Nalles and Tesimo, up to Passo Palade at a height of 1,523 m a.s.l. along the winding pass road. This stage of the race ends in Peio Terme in the Trentino region.
This stage of the Giro d'Italia which will take place in South Tyrol ensure a top class sporting event again this year.
