Eppan / Appiano
Eppan on the Wine Road is the largest wine-growing community in South Tyrol and has 1200 hectares of vineyards, streching from 200m above sea level to 1600m above sea level on the Mendel ridge. There are 14,000 inhabitants in the community that includes 9 wine villages and hamlets: St. Michael, Girlan, St. Pauls, Frangart, Missian, Unterrain, Perdonig, Gaid and Montiggl.
180 castles and historic noble manor houses situated amid its rolling hills give the region a special atmosphere. Its tidy wine villages and hamlets are flanked by impressive mountains and thick forests, which give the region a mild climate. Blessed with abundant sunshine, like much of Südtirol, Eppan is an ideal place for wine growing.
Eppan's approximately 25 wineries and 3 distilleries produce internationally famous wines and liqueurs.
A well marked network of trails invites active holidaymakers and families to experience the pleasure of the landscape, from its lush Mediterranean vegetation, to a pair of romantic lakes hidden in the Moniggl Forest. Whether vacationing in a romantic castle, in a comfortable hotel, on a farm or a cozy private accommodation, Eppan offers something for everyone.
Visitors can tour Eppan's castles, explore wine cellars and vineyards, attend wine seminars and enjoy wine, sparkling wine and grappa tastings, throughout the year.
