Terlan / Terlano

Spargel als WahrzeichenTerlaner KirchturmUmgebung

The famous wine producing village of Terlan is situated in the heart of sunny Etschtal, between Bolzano/Bozen and Merano/Meran. It is the home of the famous "Terlaner", a fine white wine with a fruity bouquet.

It is not only an appreciated wine growing area: together with the hamlets of Vilpian and Siebeneich, it forms the so-called asparagus triangle. Between April and May the numerous restaurants in the area prepare delicious asparagus specialities. The sandy soil on the Eastern and Western shores of the Etsch provide the perfect environment for the cultivation of asparagus.

The east entrance of the town is dominated by the ancient ruins of Castel Neuhaus, a place imbued with history, also called "die Maultasch", named after the Duchess of Tyrol, Margareta Maultasch.
