Griesbauerhof, Georg & Margareth Mumelter

Griesbauerhof, located where the Val d'Isarco opens into the broad basin of Bolzano, has been owned by the Mumelter family since 1785. 300 meters above sea level at the foot of the picturesque hills of St. Maddalena and St. Giustina in Rencio, the estate comprises three hectares of sun-drenched vineyards, with an original wine press that is described in historic writings. The generous sunlight, breezy south-facing position of the vineyards and sandy clay soil (the estate lies on the gravely bed of Rivelaun creek) provide the ideal conditions for the cultivation of highly extracted red and white wines with great character.
Consistently high quality, fully ripened grapes year after year is the result of very attentive vineyard care, pruning, fertilisation and pest management as well as yield reduction by thinning the young fruit. Pressing, vinification and ageing are performed using the most traditional and natural methods possible; malolactic fermentation occurs at its own pace, resulting in well-balanced red wines with an appealing ripeness and maturity that owes to their ageing in oak barrels.
Griesbauerhof and the recently acquired Spitz vineyard, (located where the Isarco and Adige rivers meet) as well as our tenant winery in Moritzing, offer the best conditions for growing fuller-bodied rosé and red wines (primarily the local Schiava and Lagrein varietals) and a lush, focused and concentrated straw-yellow Pinot Grigio.
