Winery Larcherhof
The vineyard ‘Larcherhof' has been in the possession of the Egger-Spögler family since 1893. The history of the ‘Larcherhof' as a vineyard can be traced back for centuries. A visible sign for that history are the impressive looking, more than one hundred years old vine stocks of the Lagrein, as well as the old wine cellar.
In 2008, the Spögler family made the decision to press and bottle the wine on their own and run the ‘Larcherhof' as a wine-press house with regional vine sorts.
The vine sorts
On a total of five hectares of cropland, different vine sorts are cultivated close to nature. The ‘Larcherhof' and the other vineyards in the area belong to the traditional St. Magdalena region. The 70 years old vine stocks of the ‘Larcherhof', which are used to produce the St. Magdalena vine, are composed of the traditional vine sorts of the Klein-, Mitter-, Edel-, Tschaggele- und Grauvernatsch and give the St. Magdalena it's typical and special variety and aroma.
The ‘Larcherhof' focuses on the Lagrein-vine sort which prefers the warm porphyry grounds as well as the hot summer days and the cool nights while ripening, and grows on the typical pointed archs and on the more modern espaliers. The almost Mediterranean climate of the area is an ideal precondition for the cultivation of high quality red wine and rosé and for a fine and high grade Ruländer.
The wines
Through the ecologically cultivation of the vine stocks and the ecologically processing of the ground as well as the reduction of the yield while ripening, the grapes get their optimal quality.
