Where the aristocrats had their residences, the area couldn't but shine in splendour. This is the case in Appiano.
Mediterranean hillside, and a mountain chain which withstands cold winds in the backdrop. This climate convinced the aristocrats to stay. More than 180 castles and manors stand out amidst vineyards, an area which provides the best prerequisites from growing Alto Adige wines.
With a vine surface of 941 hectares, the wine growing community Appiano is the biggest in Alto Adige. Nowhere else is so much wine grown: a total of 621 hectares for white wine and 319 hectares for red wine.
Furthermore Appiano and the adjacent wine villages are the homes of 25 wineries and sparkling wine producers, and 3 Grappa distilleries. Wine and nature lovers love to visit this area. Sign-posted hiking and bike routes awaiting discovery, amongst others trails leading to the Monticolo Lakes.
